Hi, everyone. I am looking for literary references and any comments on hardware diagnositics for workstations. I'd like to know: * what is the state-of-the-art of the diagnostics techniques (for WS or computer hardware in general) * Do the designers put in extra hardware for this purpose or they would rather design a seperate "diagnostics box" and have it connected to the computer components through an RS-232 port to do the diagnostics work? * What is the frequency of the hardware failure on workstations and what are the sympotoms? * What are the specific considerations for diagnosing workstations? i.e., is there much difference between a WS and a mainframe when concerning diagnostics? * Are there any standardized tests accross the vendors? Is ISO considering anything connected to this? * I'd like to do some case study on some kind of popular WS such as Sun, DEC, HP, etc. The ventors are not quite willing to give out this information since this does not included in their customer service. Thanks in advance. Siping Liu
