I am looking around for information concerning closed-circuit TV systems for the visually impaired, those who read large-type books, etc. It seems likely that a camera could be mounted on a tripod to peer down over the reader's shoulder, zoomed to achieve the desired magnification. The reader would look ahead at his TV screen at the enlarged image, positioning the book/newspaper on his lap to the desired portion of the page, turning the pages as usual. Anyone have experience with such setups? Does a standard TV set work, or do you end up going to hi-res monitors and special cameras? Does ordinary contrast adjustment suffice for easy reading? And are there any special techniques developed for training readers with macular degeneration, to make use of peripheral vision for reading? Any standard sources for equipment? W. H.
