[sci.bio] Computers in Molecular Biology - a recent article

hes@ecsvax.UUCP (Henry Schaffer) (04/07/88)

In the 1 April 1988 issue of Science there is an article, Computers
in Molecular Biology: Current Applications and Emerging Trends (pages
47-52. It has some interesting sections on the need for computer
based methods for analyzing DNA sequence data to detect genes,
functional sites, intron/exon boundaries ... The computer
methods discussed include statistical and AI techniques.
It also has some interesting (and debatable) sections on
how the flood of newly generated sequence data will outrun
the capacities of present and future supercomputers.

Worth looking at if this area is of interest.
