[sci.bio] Ecological working holidays

quis@cs.qmc.ac.uk (Chris Rose) (10/11/88)

Dear all,

I am going to take a year off work next year in order to see some select bits
of the Southern Hemisphere, in particular Australia and South America (esp
Peru & Brazil). Instead of simply playing tourist I would like to take the
opportunity to get involved in voluntary/ semi paid ecological work. I have
a degree in biological sciences and an interest in rainforest ecology but
other than that no specific skills other than boundless enthusiasm.

Currently I am try to discover contacts for projects at which I might be able to
help out. IN Peru for instance there is the Tambopata reserve which takes
unpaid people on to help out running the reserve.

Are there any similar projects which anyone knows of in Australia? yes I know
that they have only got a little bit of rainforest left but presumably there
must be some conservation work going on. I've only had limitted luck in getting
information out of the normal tourist channels and so am turning to the net.

Contacts/names of projects/addresses/ideas gratefully recieved Thanks

Chris
