[sci.bio] Learned Instincts Passed Through Genetics

timw@zeb.USWest.COM (02/17/89)

A discussion is ensuing in alt.fishing about the long term
affect of catch and release fishing amongst a totally wild
population of fish. The question's are, could a trout LEARN
to avoid certain fly patterns, or for that matter bait,
after being caught and released dozens of time? Could that
same fish learn that fighting the fisherman is an unnecessary
energy expenditure ? If YES to either, could this same information
be transmitted genetically to subsequent generations of fish.

Please, someone with some solid information on these questions,
reply to me via e-mail, followups to alt.fishing or this newsgroup.

Thank You.
