[sci.bio] BIG fruitflies sought

richard@gryphon.COM (Richard Sexton) (07/17/89)

A while back I posted asking about fruit flies. I've met the fruit flies
of my dreams, they are truly wingless, dont develop wings, ever (that
strain that grew wings back at higher temeratures is either very
difficult to find or extinct) and my tropical fish are indeed grateful.

I have been told there are about 150 strains of fruit flies.

SOmebody else told me of a trip he made to Germany, where he observed
a strainof giant wingless fruit flies. He was unable to bring any back
as bringing flies into California can be, uh, touchy.

So my questio: does anybody have access to flies such as these ?

Does anybody have access to a catalog such as Carolina Biological
supply, who might list them ?

Thanks for any help in this matter.
