[sci.bio] healthful houseplants

Having recently moved into a new apartment, I have decided to get some
houseplants; having recently returned to Chicago from home (Mass.) I
have been reminded that the air quality here, especially during the
summer, leaves alot to be desired. While I've heard of no plant that
completely 'eats' pollution, it is well known that they 'exhale'
oxygen. I was thus wondering if anyone might have any information
(direct or relaible sources) as to which (species/families) of
(available house-)plants would be best suited for the purpose
of (partially) cleaning air and giving off oxygen, if there
are any of a resonable size (I have a 1-bedroom apartment).

While I'm interested in the plants for decorative as well as
environmental purposes, I'm not too picky on appearances; I
think I would find most plants a pleasant addition to my apt.

As I don't read this newsgroup regularly, I would appreciate
your cc-ing to my e-mail address if you information/advice
you would like to share.

Thanks in advance,
                   Harel B.
