[sci.bio] Hierarchy

Some of these are as follows (from G. G. Simpson, 1961, Principles
of Animal Taxonomy, Columbia Univ. Press):

  Kingdom
   Phylum (often Division in plants)
    Subphylum
     Superclass
      Class
       Subclass
        Infraclass
         Cohort
          Superorder
           Order
            Suborder
             Infraorder
              Superfamily
               Family
                Subfamily
                 Tribe
                  Subtribe
                   Genus
                    Subgenus
                     Species
                      Subspecies
To these, biologists now often add superspecies, and increasingly
semispecies (as between Species & Subspecies), though originally
semispecies were just species that were members of a superspecies
complex. Allospecies are members of s superspecies complex. I'm
sure there are others.
