[sci.bio] 4 kingdoms

While taking a course at the University of Hawaii some years ago, I was
taught that there were four kingdoms of life- animalia, plantae, monera,
and protista. Fungi and algea were classified as plants. Now having
learned of the 5 kingdom system, I can see how it makes sence.	But I
do not understand nor remember the rational for the U of H's 4 kingdom
system. It doesn't seem like it's simply an old system, since I learned
it only about 5 years ago. Does anyone know of good reasons for sticking
to the 4 kingdoms as outlined above, instead of having the now more
accepted 5?
