I would like to know more about reversal of the magnetic poles. I understand they do reverse from time to time. When was the last reversal? Why do they reverse? What affect does this have on the physical state of the globe? Forgive me if my questions sound ignorant but I know next to nothing about this and am quite interested in learning more. Recommendation of pertinent books on the subject would be appreciated. Also I remember being told that the south pole at one time was centered in Africa. Was this just the magnetic pole or did the globe pivot around this pole?
