[sci.bio] Cryptozoology and remains--where are the bones?

adamsd@crash.cts.com (Adams Douglas) (03/31/91)

Was in a discussion with a friend the other day about various mystery
beasties (Bigfoot, Nessie, etal.). And I brought up the question of
populations and remains. I'm neutral on the question of the existence
of such critters, but I wondered where all the bones of the dead ones
are? Now with Nessie and other water-dwellers the answer is obvious--
they're on the bottom in the mud. But what about Bigfoot and other
creatures. Shouldn't a large collection of remains have accumulated
in an area occupied by any population for thousands of years? Enough
so that you can find 'odd' bones frequently in the target area? After
all, it's no trick to find antelope bones in the Serengeti is it?

What's the scoop on this question? Both for animals in general and
Crypto-critters in particular.
