I have a suggestion: what about operating system component generators? Based on some discussions with Bob Brown and other references I am aware of, I would like to suggest a discussion on things to generator components for operating systems We have programs for compilers like YACC and LEX (in the Unix world), and several less popular tools from Cornell, LLNL, etc. What about for similar for operating systems? A simplest one would be for file systems. The problem is there are few poor taxonomies and classification schemes. For instance, should a file system for a real time OS significantly differ from any other? Are there better ways to handle sold state disks? Similar tools could be thought about for processes management, network communication, etc. From the Rock of Ages Home for Retired Hackers: --eugene miya NASA Ames Research Center eugene@ames-aurora.ARPA "You trust the `reply' command with all those different mailers out there?"
