[net.mail.headers] That ferocious ack

Margulies@CISL-SERVICE-MULTICS.ARPA ("Benson I. Margulies") (03/21/84)

The local SMTP maintainer points out that that so-called ack has neigher
a From nor a Sender field, and is therefore invalid.

Would the responsable implementation (COM?) stand up?

For its sins, "Acknowledge-To:" is specified by the JNT Mail protocol
as generating an end to end acknowlegement. There are dire
warnings about its use with distribution lists. The element is
intended for human rather than machine processing (i.e. to give
confidence as to a messages arrival). Many UK sites would send
an ack if such a field is in the original message. UCL will send
one ONLY if the message arrives by the JNT Mail Protocol.
