you can argue mightily that the database solution is impossible, that uucp can't provide reliable delivery, that mailers can't handle mixed addresses, that unix mail provides the wrong conceptual model, that we heretics worship the wrong gods, etc. etc. etc., but that doesn't change the fact that all these things work today. here. now. send mail when you have figured out which rfc's are requests for comments and which are standards, what these inscrutable documents hold for us, and the manner by which they control my destiny. peter
