A certain company's mailer is munging the "From" header in mail msgs improperly. For instance the following message was sent to check connection response time: echo neighbor | mail neighbor!mot!fred It would have arrived at "neighbor" with a uux(1) instruction to "rmail mot!fred", the input being: From fred Tue Nov 12 21:38:26 1985 remote from mot neighbor Their mailer munged things into: From uucp Wed Nov 13 18:49 EST 1985 >From neighbor!fred Tue Nov 12 21:38:26 1985 remote from mot Received: by neighbor.neighbor (4.12/4.7) id AA28316; Tue, 12 Nov 85 20:57:04 pst Date: Tue, 12 Nov 85 20:57:04 pst From: mot!neighbor!fred Message-Id: <8511130457.AA28316@neighbor.neighbor> Apparently-To: mot!fred Status: R neighbor Note that the ">From" and "From:" lines are incorrect. The ">From" line should read: >From mot!fred Tue Nov 12 21:38:26 1985 remote from neighbor and the "From:" line should read: From: mot!fred At least this is what mailers I've seen are doing, such as at ihnp4. Any chance this phenomenon is due to the loop-back nature of this msg? -- << Generic disclaimer >> Fred Christiansen ("Canajun, eh?") @ Motorola Microsystems, Tempe, AZ UUCP: {seismo!terak, trwrb!flkvax, utzoo!mnetor, ihnp4, attunix}!mot!fred ARPA: oakhill!mot!fred@ut-sally.ARPA "Families are Forever"
