[net.mail.headers] Stopping loops

HJNCU%CUNYVM.BITNET@wiscvm.ARPA (Henry Nussbacher) (02/21/86)

This may not be the best method but it works for me today and for Annette
Deschon who manages the gateways that respond to mail for Telemai/Mcimail/
Dialcom. We scan the From: line for one of the following character strings:

MAILER SMTPUSER DAEMON DATABASE POSTMAN POSTMAST MMDF SUBSYSTEM

If the From field contains one of these character strings the mail is
placed in a holding area and is not processed until there is some
human intervention. I would prefer to see a special RFC header that
indicates that the mail being received was created by a program and not
by a human but I guess that will never happen. In the meantime, this
works for Database@Bitnic.Bitnet and has stopped countless loops between
networks and within Bitnet.
