At Virginia Tech we have embarked upon a project to facilitate first mail and later other applications like printing and database access being accessible in a convenient way to all users of mainframes, minis, and micros (of which we have over 6000). With about 25,000 people in the university community this is indeed an important and challenging activity. We would like to use the X.400 standard, but build some of our connections over asynch lines, some over a Sytek local area network, some over ISN, and some over ethernet (using TCP/IP). We ultimately want to have interfaces for IBM mainframes (running PROFS or regular CMS), IBM/PCs, UNIX System V (on 3B15, UNIX/PCs, VAX, etc.), UNIX 4.2/3bsd (on SUN, VAX, ...), VAX/VMS, etc. Please send comments directly to me rather than to the group. We are especially interested in finding out about all current and planned X.400 implementations. Many thanks for your time and interest, Ed Fox (Dr. Edward A. Fox, Dept. of Comp. Science, Virginia Tech) ARPAPNET: fox%vt@csnet-relay.arpa BITNET: fox@vtcs1.bitnet UUCP: seismo!vtisr1!fox
