To all who may be interested in the history of the world according to MsgGroup, the list ceased its operation during the summer of 1986 after 11 continuous years of operation. The decision to cease operations was difficult, but necessary, because MsgGroup's reason for being had evaporated sometime during the previous year or two. MsgGroup was brain-dead before it was turned off, and its demise was quite welcome. But, the complete transcript has been kept intact, and the archives are in the safe keeping of Frank Wancho@simtel20.arpa who will attempt to keep them online and available to anyone who cares to poke and search for the nuggets that are hidden there-in. More than one student has gotten quite an education by perusing the archives. I wish here to thank all who helped us to grapple with the central issues of mail when the concepts were being forged. The FLAMES were magnificent, the arguments both profound and sublime (when not ridiculous), and the results, when processed through the political mills of international standards organizations, have given us X.400. I shudder to think what they would have produced without the flames of MsgGroup to light the way. The vital access facts are given below: FORMAT: Twenex Mail Files, with 100 messages per file.
