[net.nlang] Man<--> manus misinformation

	Several days ago, I asked for information about others who had
been taught the apparent fallicy that the word "man" was derived from
the Latin manus<>hand.
	Out of 10 replies, eight people, as well as myself, were from
the Ohio/Indiana/Western Pa. Area of the USA. The sample was not
dense enough for any better location of the center than that.
	The other two replies were from individuals who thought it
necessary to tell me that they knew better. Wowie-zowie!

	I must congratulate my primary education for leaving me so able
to accept that a long held idea is wrong. I fear that their method is not
the best, considering that it consisted of providing me with an enormous
amount of misinformation.
