This is a request for Austrailianisms. I would like to compile
a list of differences in American and Austrialian English ala
English, With Comments in American, and similar cross euphimism
dictionaries for trans-Atlantic differences in daily English
usage. I am spured to do this as a result of watching The
Paul Hogan Show, and failing to understand approx. 10% of the
verbiage (annoying when the word is in a punchline!). It has
made me interested in lingual differences on both sides of the
Pacific.
Please mail any Aussieisms that are not ordinary (shiela, etc.)
or common to English English (loo paper, washing-up liquid, etc.)
to ME according to the following format if possible:
<Austrailian word><tab><phonetic pronounciation><tab><part of
speech and American translation> <Carriage return>
<optional explanation of origin or Blank line>
I will post a list to the net if there is ample response.
