Remember that the entire concept of correct and incorrect ways of spelling a word is only about 150 years old, and not very harshly implemented anyway (e.g. tyre, centre, gaol). So I see no problem with "ov" as an alternate spelling of "of". Glenn

Absolutely. An informal survey here shows that only the minority of users who are less than 150 years old are having any trouble with "ov". Those few, however, have taken to 'n'ing any article from habitual offenders, rather than try to wade through the text.
