I was recently compiling an article for another newsgroup and I wanted a word to express surprise. The article came out something like this: "Yow! I've just found a terrible bug in ..." I read the article again recently and it struck me as strange that our spelling program had not complained about the "yow". I checked, and sure enough, "yow" IS in our on-line dictionary (4.1 bsd). However, I can't find it in any printed dictionary. Even Websters New World Dictionary which boasts about containing "recent" words such as "glitzy", doesn't list "yow". I used to know some people who read Zippy the Pinhead comics and I think I picked up "yow" from them. So I open myself to enlightenment (and ridicule) by asking you for a definition for "yow". Let's all follow good netiquette; send me mail with your definition (and references) and I'll summarize soon. Thanks, Bob Van Valzah (...!decvax!ittvax!tpdcvax!bobvan)
