Re: Dave Elliott's little flame about my description of the pronunciation
of 'height'. I was poking a wee bit of fun at my boss! I know fine well
that the pronunciation of the language varies quite dramatically from
region to region and that there is really no 'right' way of pronouncing
a word. FYI,dave. I am originally from England and pronounce spurious
with a 'y' sound after the 'p'. While on the subject of pronunciation ..
two others ... first .. two of my high school physics teachers were
Welsh and they pronounced the word 'use' as if it was spelled 'ooze' whereas
almost anywhere else it pronounced approximately 'yooze'.
second .. how do you pronounce the word 'pronunciation' .. some pronounce
the second syllable as '..nun..' and others as '..noun..'.
One parting shot ... my dictionary gives the pronunciation of 'height'
as 'hite' ONLY so maybe you should stuff my dictionary?
