[net.nlang] Computer intelligence?

rggoebel (01/15/83)

  You've got to be kidding? A controller, or any other device, is hardly
more ``intelligent'' because it's more like a computer.  I suspect you've
been reading too many advertisements in Datamation or something? Intelligence
is based on knowledge and its application...despite philosophical problems
with the concept of knowledge, anthropomorphizing gives us `quick and dirty'
ways of describing machine (or any other purposive) behaviour. My television
certainly `knows' more about video broadcast frequencies than your computer;
I guess that means it's intelligent because it's less like a computer?
