Unless I missed it, the best choice for the comparison
of last year's production to this year's is to use two
simple sentences rather than the compound varieties that
have been suggested (with "impressive" words that no
one really uses like 'whereas', e.g.,

	Last year's production was 13,000.  This year's
	is 17,000.

Keep it simple! Remember?
