Yes, Port Out Starboard Home is correct.

Until recently it was not fashionable to be tanned, since it meant
that one worked out of doors, and so did manual labour.

The term arose wrt English gentry traveling to the East.  PO/SH
meant that their accomodationwould ensure they were always in
the shade.
