[net.nlang] genderless pronouns, a lighter touch

geo (05/02/83)

I have been catching up on the news tonight, and I have read several dozen
articles on genderless pronouns.

I just had an amusing vision. I know that there have been lots of
different and inconsistent sets of genderless pronouns suggested
over the past dozen years. There have been far too many for me
to have kept track of. It seems as if there have been dozens.

The vision I had was that instead of reading articles with the
somewhat jarring "he/she", or "she/he", I may soon be reading
articles with "per/tu/co/heshe/...." Personally, I don't
think I am quite ready for that.

Seriously, the style I found least jarring is when the author uses
"she" for one illustration or example, and uses "he" for the next.
