[net.nlang] sign in London"s Heathrow airport

zz1sm@sdccsu3.UUCP (06/11/83)

Nor have I seen electric passengers who carry vehicles...

jjm@hou5e.UUCP (06/13/83)

My, how silly it was for that first person to misinterpret
the sign at Heathrow Airport. Look at how many of us realized
the true meaning, judging by the number of identical responses
about electric passengers. (Do electric passengers dream of
	android sheep?)

On a pack of matches:

		KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN

Furthermore, I haven't ever seen any electric passengers carrying vehicles
ANYWHERE!

mark@umcp-cs.UUCP (06/14/83)

I was obediently reading my matchbook one afternoon
when a child approached. Terrified, I ran to get away.
In my haste I dropped the matchbook but could do nothing
when the child picked up the matches and burst into flames.

ENOUGH ALREADY!
I've had umpteen mail messages, not to mention six or eight news
postings, about electric passengers carrying vehicles. Don't you
all know that the British are, if nothing else, grammatical?
If they meant to prohibit electric passengers from carrying
vehicles, the sign would have said "No electric passengers..." etc.
The use of "electric passenger" in the singular makes it clear
what the prohibition applies to.

<second try. Idiot news interface, grumble, grumble.>

... The child picks up the matches and bursts into flames:

-- HEY!! JERK, come back here! You got no sense, or nothin?
You don't know, it says KEEP AWAY, you Better keep away?
What 'r you doin still stickin around??
What it says is KEEP AWAY FROM ME!! What's a matter wit chew?

Someone asked in this newsgroup why they even put No Smoking
signs and rules on public transit. I hope this was tongue-in-cheek,
or I will be glad to show the moron why they do it by wearing
a gas mask while riding on his favorite commuter train and sending
dioxin fumes his way. Cigarette smoking is not only hazardous to
YOUR health (a la Surgeon General), it is also hazardous to MY
health if I am around you.

the next person to submit an article about the damn sign in London's
Heathrow airport will be dragged backwards by his thumbs through a patch
of rosebushes by an enraged Wookie, then slid down a 25-foot razor blade
into a vat of iodine.

tim@alberta.UUCP (06/18/83)

Or how about the one I saw in a VIA Rail Train (Canada's train service)
that said:

	No Smoking Rules Strictly Enforced

Strange. Why do they even have them?

tim@alberta.UUCP (06/20/83)

Just to clear up any confusion, I am not a smoker and I do not
appreciate people smoking anywhere near me. Take another look at
what I quoted:

	NO SMOKING RULES STRICTLY ENFORCED

In actuality, VIA rail is very good about their smoking rules, and
even seems to favour non-smokers.

The first sign that I saw in Heathrow airport was
