I was recently asked by an associate what the word 'prepend' meant. Frankly, I have been using the word for years to mean 'to put something on the front of', sort of the opposite of append. However, when pressed I could not find the word in any dictionary I own. What about you? Do you use the word? Is it a word? Please reply by mail. I will post reply if there is enough interest. - Rob Stampfli (cbosgd!res) -- Robert Stampfli

#R:cbosgd:-20300:uicsl:8600013:000:319 uicsl!preece Sep 9 09:13:00 1983 You don't really need 'prepend' because 'append' doesn't have to mean at the back. Thus you could append at the beginning just as well (though this use is not as common). The meaning of 'append' is just to attach to the outside of something. [Sorry, I don't think I made those sentences very well; must be sleep dep].
