[net.nlang] Punctuation problem

kragness@stolaf.UUCP (06/16/83)

Here's any interesting problem that I ran across the other day:

	---------------------------------------------------------
	Add punctuation to the following sentence to make it both
	grammatically correct and make sense:

	John while James had had had had had had had had had had
	had a better effect on the teacher.
	---------------------------------------------------------

    It's not as hard as it looks.

			Good luck

	John, while James had had "had," had had "had had;" "had had"
    had had a better effect on the teacher.

John, while James had had "had", had had "had had". "Had had" had had
a better effect on the teacher.

Now try this:

THAT THAT IS IS THAT THAT IS NOT IS
NOT THAT THAT IS IS NOT THAT THAT IS
NOT THAT THAT IS NOT IS NOT THAT THAT IS

Now try this:

THAT THAT IS IS THAT THAT IS NOT IS
NOT THAT THAT IS IS NOT THAT THAT IS
NOT THAT THAT IS NOT IS NOT THAT THAT IS

That "That is is that that is not is
not that that is is not that that is
not that that is not" is not that, that is

(Hmmm.... seems i kludged a bit. Big Deal)

(Oops, sorry about that)

THAT THAT IS IS THAT THAT IS NOT IS
NOT THAT THAT IS IS NOT THAT THAT IS
NOT THAT THAT IS NOT IS NOT THAT THAT IS

(I shall add commas where they are not
truly necessary to signify pauses in reading, ok?)

That that is, is; that that is not, is not;
that that is, is not that that is not;
that that is not is not that that is.

I've taken Logic 1001!

	It sounds more like logic 2001 to me :-) (with apologies to
S. Kubrick.)
