[net.nlang] need a word

ken@ihuxq.UUCP (ken perlow) (12/22/83)

Is there a good, non-sexist, generic equivalent for the word
"gentleman" or its adverb, "gentlemanly"? "Honorable" is
about as close as I've come, but that's not quite right.
I don't expect to find a synonym too easily, as the word
"gentleman" is, by definition, sexist.

How about chivalrous (perhaps also sexist, though there's no reason why it
should be), or considerate? Or the latest buzz-word, ``sensitive''?
