When I was in Montreal, Souvlaki was roast beef & vegetables in pita bread, with something akin to sour cream on it. At a greek restaurant here in California, souvlaki is what I would have called shish-kabob, and what I thought was souvlaki is called "gyros". Am I confused, or what? Here in Baltimore, our local greek places sell Gyros (pronounced the same but no relation to NY Heroes) and Souvlaki. Gyros is ground lamb and beef, while Souvlaki is chunks of beef. Other than that the construction of the sandwiches seems to be the same. -Ron
