I had always thought that the term 'pommies' was derived from P.O.M., Prisoner Of his (her?) Majesty. Laurie pucc-k:afo

I believe the abbreviation is P.O.M.E. This translates to Prisoner Of Mother England. So much for the (assumed) facts. I understand it to refer to the prisoners sent to Australia way back when, but can't vouch for it. Rube Goldberg II (djm@nmtvax)
