[net.nlang] "Our Concern is Growing": Ortho"s Triple Ambiguity

chabot@amber.DEC (Lisa S. Chabot) (09/18/84)

(apologies if these have already been mentioned)

More interpretations of "He made the robot fast":

    {using "made" as either "he forced it" or "he constructed it so" or
	"he taught it to do so":}
	He made the robot flout conventional sexual mores
	He made the robot live in a dissipated manner

    {using "made" as either "he constructed it so" or "he taught it to do so":}
	He made the robot resistant to attack
	He made the robot unfadeable
	He made the robot compatible with a short exposure time

    {other forms of "made" (and not defining what "robot fast" is):}
	He appointed someone to the position of robot fast
	He achieved the status of robot fast
	He constituted the robot fast
	He provided the robot fast
	He prepared the robot fast (after all, do we really know what robots
					don't eat?)
	He executed the robot fast (perhaps a bit of fancy stepping?)
	He had sexual intercourse with the robot fast

    {and now for something completely different:}
	The 5th letter of the Hebrew alphabet made the robot fast

[didn't mean to get so wild about it]
