[net.nlang] Any Esperanto enthusiasts out there?

neal@druxv.UUCP (Neal D. McBurnett) (09/29/84)

I recently met a fellow international folk dancer who has become hooked on
Esperanto. As I understand it:
The European Economic Community is experimenting with using
Esperanto as in intermediate language for their official translations,
Europe has over a million regular speakers
Eastern europe is perhaps the region most interested in Esperanto.
China is pushing Esperanto these days.
While you may find more English speakers in most foreign countries,
you will be much more readily accepted if you speak a 'neutral'
language like Esperanto: you convey the impression that you're
more serious about communicating on an even footing.
It's awfully easy to find pen-pals and local Esperanto associations
		in most countries.

Thus, as a person interested in world travel, I now consider the relatively
simple process of learning Esperanto to be well worth the trouble.

So is anyone else on the net interested? It would be fun to exchange electronic mail
in Esperanto (net.nlang.esperanto?). It would be easy to write
a crude word-for-word Esperanto to English translation filter to help out
with the early learning stages.

Especially: is there anyone in the Boulder Colorado area who is interested?
