I was reminded of this by the data/musea/colisea discussions. Some friends of mine had a running game to make up items on a menu for a meal, the rules being that each item had to be singular and had to be food. An example: a rouse (singular of rice--the analogy is "mice") [Yes, I know, the items aren't necessarily going to be real words, but that's the fun part.] Anybody have any good ones? I used to argue for "ouse", but no one liked it-- ice isn't exactly food, I suppose, and what would be an ouse--a single molecule? (but then...). I've been trying to remember the 'singular' of "tea", which I think works out to be "te" (if you spell "tea" "ti" and then form the 'singular' as you would for "cognoscenti"...these things work better verbally, I guess).
