Can anyone qualified speak about the "ij" in Dutch? Is it properly speaking a ligature? Does the capital form occur? Is it an important character? Does anybody have ideas about why it didn't make it into the ISO 8-bit character set? [Ij got a flij in mij eij ...] It is considered equivalent to "y", even when alphabetizing. The Dutch don't care if you don't make it a ligature. (On the other hand, I remember designing such a ligature on a TI 99-4.) Yes, it can be capitalized - there's a body of water called the "IJ." (Also known as the "Y", naturally.) -- Col. G. L.
