(Why was the thing I'm following up in net.flame?) I always liked this item, which was in the English Usage section of the New York Times Encyclopedic Almanac of 1970. Actually, it's been a while since I saw it, and I may be reversing their recommendations. Anyway... > INTERPRETIVE is preferred to INTERPRETATIVE. PREVENTATIVE > is preferred to PREVENTIVE.
