Is there such a thing as a dictionary that lists words according to their
definitions? That's what I need today. My thesaurus is of no help.
I'm looking for a word that means "Something patently untrue stated for
humorous effect." You know, like "It was so cold that winter that our words
froze in our beards and we didn't hear a thing until the Spring thaw." I
think this word exists, but I can't recall it and I can't think of any
reference work that would help me. I suspect it's one of those Greek-derived
words like "strophe" or "antinomy."
Please MAIL any responses to me. I don't read this net.
Thanks in the proverbial advance,
