Here is a pretty problem for those of you having an intrest or background in Middle East, Biblical archaeology. A friend of mine is writing a Seminary research paper on the ancient town known in the Old Testament as Shechem. Shechem is the modern Tell Balatah near the modern city of Nablus in Israel. In his report, he wishes to discuss details of various excavations. One of the details he cannot find in any books or journals here in San Diego is the LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE to the MINUTE and SECOND of the datum line used in the excavations. He does know that the datum point is next to the Tomb of Joseph (Magam en-Nebi Yusuf) (altitude=500m) in the village street of Nablus. Evidently, the records of this datum line have been lost by the Nablus Dept. of Lands and Survey. If there are any scholars out there who could supply this infor- mation (please cite your sources), my friend and I would be extremely grateful. Also, any hints or suggestions as to how we can locate this information, who to contact, where to write, or what books or journals that would be useful would be greatly appreciated. I'm willing to port HACK or HACK-PC source for this! If possible, please reply via ARPA-NET to me, Martin Jordan, at jordan@nosc.arpa 619-225-6872 619-225-2564 U.S. Mail : Martin Jordan NOSC Code 743 San Diego, CA 92152-5000 I eagerly await your replies. If enough interest is generated, I may even summarize the responses and post them to the net [;-). Remember, of such trivia, dissertations are born. Thanks in advance, Martin e.o.t.
