[net.aviation] Life of Av Gas?

mls@harpo.UUCP (10/15/84)

How long does aviation gas last when stored in an underground
tank? I fly to a small airport, Chase City, Virginia and at
most there is one or two airplanes there in a hanger. I am
reluctant to buy gas there because I believe very little is sold there.
I have been stopping at Chesterfield County to get gas for the round
trip.

Actually, AV GAS is better than Automotive gasoline in this
respect. Provided no contaminants are introduced in the tank,
it should last a while. AV GAS, recognizing that it is frequently
left in planes that aren't flown regularly, contains anti-gum
agents to keep the fuel from getting cruddy while sitting. This
is another reason why AUTOGAS isn't always optimal.
