If you want to build your own plane with a VW conversion powerplant and use a constant speed prop, you may want to consider instead a variable pitch prop. This does not require the plumbing that a constant speed prop requires. Try Avia Propeller Co., P.O. Box 47042, Oak Park, Mi. 48237.

A question on variable-pitch, as contrasted with constant-speed, props: How do you set the pitch for takeoff? Do you set a pitch that will not cause the engine to overspeed at full throttle at any airspeed up to what you intend to use for climb? Or do you use a flatter pitch at the beginning of the takeoff roll in order to get more power, reducing the pitch by hand sometime during the roll?
