"Garn, Teacher Orbiter Flights Expected in Next Realignment"

"Washington -- National Aeronautics and Space Administration decision
on which space shuttle missions will fly U.S. Senator Jake Garn
(R.- Utah) and a teacher will be made following a realignment of the
shuttle program schedule caused by orbiter Challenger tile problems.

"The final training plan and time to be applied to each topic for Garn,     
the teacher and other flight observers to follow is still expected
to involve:

  o Shuttle vehicle familiarization workbook -- 2 hr
  o Medical examination -- 8 hr
  o Environmnetal familiarization/altitude chamber run -- 8 hr
  o Space flight physiology -- 3 hr
  o Flight familiarization with the T-38 and Boeing KC-135 -- 4 hr
  o Kenedy Space Center launch/landing oriented training -- 16 hr
    Eight hours of this program will involve first aid training
    and 4 hr. will involve watching videotapes.
  o Orbiter internal location codes -- 2 hr with workbook
  o Flight data file -- 5 hr. with workbook
  o Toliet workbook -- 2 hr
  o Food and dining -- 2 hr with workbook
  o Crew equipment -- 2 hr with workbook
  o Orbiter ingress/.egress -- 2 hr with workbook
  o Cabin habitability issues -- 5 hr
  o Orbiter audio system -- 2 hr
  o Zero-g toliet training -- 1 hr
  o Ascent/reentry cabin procedures and ingress/egress mockup
    training -- 19 hr
  o Medical procedures -- 3 hr
  o Shuttle Mission Simulator ascent runs -- 4 hr 
  o Shuttle Mission Simulator in-orbit runs -- 4 hr
  o Shuttle Mission Simulator reentry runs -- 4 hr
  o Simulator/Mission Control integrated simulations -- 8 hr
  o Mission timeline review -- 4 hr"
