[net.aviation] X29 and EMPs

Discussing the effect of an EMP on an X29 is meaningless. If EMPs (nuclear
weapons) are being used, then there will be nothing left to defend against
enemy planes. Imagine a placard near every launch control for every nuclear
missile (EMP or not):

	"Launch to destroy world"

Get the picture?

The EMP problem can be overcome with the proper grounding and shielding of the
control systems, packaging, and cabling. Unfortunately, the EMP test platforms
(INCA, et al.) don't really give *that* good a simulation. The biggest problems
seem to be the SGEMP and HEMP effects on the communication links--UHF/AM,
JTIDS, etc.

Happy hunting.
