Does anyone out there have any information or know where to
obtain it on the recent incident where a China Airlines 747
dropped 30000 feet before recovering? It seemed to me
that the press accounts were insuficient and contradictory.
Is this related to "jet upset"(as one book put it) which occurs
near mach 1? I read that old jets like the 707 were especially
vulnerable to this whereas all wide body wings were designed
to prevent this. Please forgive any errors in the above statements.
Until I find the time (and , I confess, the courage) I will remain
an armchair pilot.
