<is this line really necessary> I have seen various discussions on aircraft scanners (primarilly..actually Only the Sony Air-8) I would like to suggest a possible alternative. I have not seen the Sony or a price on it but being a former student pilot (solo'ed...ran out of money..etc.) I would like to listen to various airports while traveling on business (not much else to do while passing a couple of hours in an airport lounge). I was looking for a portable scanner which would have the following: VHF HI/LO - UHF - and Aircraft (I wished to use this unit as a backup to a Bearcat 210 which is showing its age). I called Regency checking on the HX2000 but found that it did not have the VHF-lo. (and it had a suggest retail of approximately $569). The only alternative I could locate was the Radio Shack PRO-30 ($299.95). I finially purchased this unit last week and have been extremely pleased with its performance. I live approximately 60 miles west of Boston near the N.H. border and when I have the scanner connected to an outside antenna I am able to receive Logan Tower frequencies (not just the planes but also the Tower). The reception has been very clear on all frequencies (extremely better than the Bearcat on non-aircraft). Features: 16 channel VHF 30-54/108-136/138-174 MHz UHF 380-512 MHz Search feature which doesn't mess up an existing channel (could be considered a temporary 17th channel) Programmable lockout of specific channels Programmable 2-second delay 2 scanning speeds Priority channel Detailed LCQ display for all functions I hope this may show an alternative for anyone looking for a multi-purpose hand-held unit. I plan to make it a normal traveling companion { Normal disclamer..No association with Radio Shack..my own opinions..etc } Ron Miller Digital Equipment Corporation {decvax, ucbvax, allegra}!decwrl!dec-rhea!dec-prism!miller
