[net.aviation] Refs to personal flying machines wanted

wolit@alice.UUCP (Jan Wolitzky) (03/05/85)

To flesh out a hare-brained idea of mine, I'd appreciate pointers to
information on any personal flying devices, especially those designed
or conceived of for infantry use. I'm not interested in conventional
single-seat planes, but in things like the Bell jet-belt (remember
the "Man from Glad" commercials?), backpack helicopter mechanisms,
ducted-fan flying platforms, and other such wierd contraptions.
I remember seeing pictures of these devices, but I'd like to know about
specs, contractors, designations, production and deployment (if any),
etc. I know that some of this information must be in coffee-table
picture books out there ("Great Aircraft of the Western Hemisphere in
the Late 1950's"), but these represent such a lunatic fringe that I'm
afraid to start searching at random. Mail to me directly; if I find
anything interesting, I'll summarize to the net.
