I am planning on getting myself current again after a 4 year layoff. A new family arrival put an abrupt halt to my flying. I have always rented and decided that it would not hurt to insure myself to avoid lossing my shirt in the event of an unforseen fender-bender (or wheel pants bender). Can anyone in net land recomend price verses coverage of different insurance companies. I only know of Avemco, but I have not found a phone number yet. (I have to dig in my mess of info at home.) I'm also interested in some kind of life-insurance. This is to satisfy the wife. My present coverage exempts flight all together. (She is sure I'll crash and burn and leave her penny-less.) Please send mail. If anyone else on the net is interested, I'll pass the info along. Gary Kaminski Engineering Computing Systems Tektronix, Inc. The AVEMCO policy is about the best I have found. Cost is $50 per year for $250,000 liability and you can purchase modest "hull" coverage for $50 to cover the $1000 deductable that most planes have. Two persons on our field have had to use their coverage and found AVEMCO to be very prompt and even covered the repair to the fence that the plane took out. As for life insurance, talk to your insurance man (person). When I first started flying, Prudential wanted an "extra" $10 per year to extend the coverage to flying until I had 100 hours. My current policy with my employer has no aviation exclusion at all. Don't fly without insurance! AVEMCOs number is 1 (800) 638-8440.

I carry AVEMCO renter's insurance and it came in handy about 1 1/2 years ago. I put a Cessna 172 on its back on landing. I escaped unhurt, but the plane had about $12,000 damage. I carry $250,000 liability ($50 cost) and $5000 hull damage ($50 cost). When the accident occurred, I called the FBO owner of the plane and then I called AVEMCO. The FBO flew to the field where the accident occurred, got the plane right-side up, parked it, and flew me back to my home field. AVEMCO sent an accident report form and requested a copy of the repair order. I sent the report form back and haven't heard from them since. Apparently they got in touch with the FBO's insurance carrier and settled things among themselves. That is the BEST treatment I've received from ANY insurance company!! For $100 a year, I don't thonk it can be beat... Pete Wilson AT&T Technologies Montgomery, IL 60538 ..!ihnp4!mgnetp!mgweed!mgwess

Has anyone looked at personal mortgage insurance with general aviation in mind? I was just about to sign up for an Omaha policy when I noticed that it excluded non-scheduled flying.
