The submission describing the dangerous practice of how the instructor always retracted the flaps for the student on touch and goes reminds me, in contrast, of the drill my instructor, a retired 747 captain, put me through in a 172 every time we shot an approach that terminated with a go around- after applying full power, I was required to call out "Flaps 20!". As pilot in command, I had to make the call regardless of who was going to handle the flaps. I could ask him to do it, but the default was always that I operated the flaps. He was great on procedures.
