[No matter where you go.......... there you are. Buckaroo Banzai] I was hoping someone out there in net-land could help me with this. (I guess I could always call the GADO office, but..) How do you interpet FAR 61.118: "A private pilot may share the operating expenses of a flight with his passengers" Say (for example) you take 2 others with you in your 4 place plane on a sight seeing trip that they asked you to do. The example of mine is a trip around Mt. Saint Helens (our local volcano which went off in 1981) from Portland, Ore. I've made the trip about eight times and am getting tired of paying half or a third. What I'd like to do is charge them what it costs me ($N per hour plan rental), and not a penny for my time. The question came up as a result of a club I belong to wanting to do something special for it's members and having me fly them around the area a bit. I'd like the club (or members) to pay for this, as I could see this running into 2-3 hours with me paying a portion (and my budget is limited). Send mail to me (use the below mail address) and I'll summarize the responses to cut down on the network traffic. Thanks in advance -Roger Southwick UUCP: tektronix!dadla!rogers CSnet: rogers%dadla@tektronix ARPAnet: rogers%dadla%tektronix@csnet-relay

Here's a related question. If you're flying on business (ignoring considerations of insurance and liability, please!) how much of the cost can you be reimbursed for? All? None? The cost of comparable airline travel? Or none of the above? Please reply to me and I'll summarize the results. Thanks, DJ Molny ihnp4!wnuxa!djmolny
